Paul Beaudoin is an American composer and interdisciplinary artist based in Tallinn, Estonia.
His practice moves between composition, electronic sound, installation, moving image, photography, painting, and text, with recurring concerns around memory, duration, silence, fragmentation, and the unstable boundary between presence and absence.
He holds a PhD in music theory and composition from Brandeis University and came to Estonia as a Fulbright Scholar in 2015. He is a member of the Estonian Composers’ Union, and the international Wandelweiser collective.
Beaudoin’s music ranges from chamber composition and fixed media to extended electroacoustic, ambient, and spatial works. His recordings have appeared on labels including Wandelweiser, Dragon’s Eye Recordings, Audiobulb, driftworks, and Chitra.
Writing in The Wire about Signal Loss, Simon Coates described Beaudoin’s attention to perceived silences as revealing spaces “rich with quiet stories and resounding depths,” and characterized the album as a collection of “sensitive, thoughtfully constructed sound works.” Sequenza21 described bright shining light as “artistically inspiring and resolutely defiant in its realization.”
